THE WALL(s)

"The Wall", starring Bob Geldof(nominated today for the Nobel Peace Prize along with Paul "Bono" Hewson) and directed by Alan Parker has been on my mind lately. This story about a troubled rock star's descent into madness in the midst of his physical and social isolation from everyone has left a mark on many a youth, including me.
You may have this mark too.
Did your older brother force you to watch it on VHS in '86 when your parents were in Santa Barbara for the weekend?
Or were you the older brother?
Did your thirteen year old neighbor, Paul, newly ensconced in teenage rebellion, flirting with 80's punk and using a Pepsi Free can to smoke shake, run it all night long during a sleep over?
Or did you actually see it at the U.C. Theater on University Avenue in Berkeley when it was released in '82?
Wait, don't answer any of these queries.
Just consider the memory seared into your brain: the animated army of marching hammers, the creepy smooth skinned masks,
Geldof shaving his eyebrows and chest(cutting his nipple).
I could go on but I will spare you and segue way to the intent of this post: The Walls have gone up in the new space.
"Well that was a stretch.", you may say. And you would be right.
But I felt the need to do something else, anything else with yet another post about the space.

Items of note:
We passed inspection.
All walls were closed this week.
Wire Racks have arrived which means
Tony can commence with wiring.
(Props go out to Tony again for picture taking.)

"The Wall" trailer is available here.
Live the dream again.

(The pics below represent two weeks of work.
The first three pairs show some before and after.)

FCSF CONSTRUCTION • DAY THIRTY SEVEN

We(THEY) are movin' along. Our engineers have begun their phase. Tony and Rick B. are measuring cable runs and mapping out cable tray routes. They are also engaging in hilarious engineer physical comedy - see below.

Items of note:
Dry wall is going up - Bitchen!
Masaki's File Catacomb is at the ready - Holy Smokes!
Plumbing is not only "in" but "done" as Warren the crew supervisor corrected me - Sweet!

It's Valentines Day - Shoot Something

Christa, newlywed, pointed me to this site yesterday. It seems that her better half, Chris Gatewood, Creative Director at Freestyle Interactive, had quite a hand it putting the site together - literally. Now whether this was for a client or to express his personal feelings about Valentines Day I cannot say. Here's the gist - Chris sets up iconic Valentines gift/activitie items: Teddy Bear, Candy, Wine, Fondue Pot, etc. Then you take your mouse, aim, click and blow the items to smithereens. Christa's brother Joe did the shooting.

Looks like a match made in heaven.
(Apparently, this site works quite well on a PC and is a bit slow on the old Macintosh.)

FCSF CONSTRUCTION • DAY TWENTY-THREE

More pics, just four days after the last round.
The wide open 10,000+ square footage looks damn small
all of a sudden.

All rooms have taken shape: MCR, Distribution offices, edit suites,
Jon's solarium, finishing rooms, Carl's room of mirrors, lounge,
and kitchen.

Items of note:
Framing 99% complete - Even the Edit Cages.
Floors sealed.
Electrical stuff happening - "220, 221. Whatever it takes."

FCSF CONSTRUCTION • DAY NINETEEN

Here are pics from day nineteen of the FCSF new office construction.
The crew is working quickly.
They almost got ahead of Tony's picture taking.
They certainly are ahead of my blog posting.
Items of note:
Multiple crew shifts occur: 3am to 10am, 6am to 3am and
electricians are there till about 8pm.

The name of the crew supervisor is Warren - a solid, throwback
kind of name.

Fender had a look - he approves. He almost showed up
with his tool belt.
Phone selection has begun.(see below)

Lemons Wins!

Lemons, cut by Tiffany, won Best Screenplay in the
National Film Challenge. They shared that award
with whatever film won the Grand Prize. Kudos to
Tif and the rest of her crew.
Show some respect if you haven't already done so
and go HERE to watch it. (Hopefully it's still up.)
